ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Pharmacology at KMU-IMS serves as a crucial bridge between basic medical sciences and clinical disciplines. Its primary academic mission is to equip medical students with essential knowledge of pharmacology while training them in the rational and effective use of medications. The department features a fully equipped pharmacodynamics laboratory, providing hands-on instruction in experimental pharmacology. Additionally, the spacious lecture hall and well-appointed tutorial rooms ensure the smooth execution of all academic activities. The curriculum and syllabus, approved by the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, are rigorously followed to deliver high-quality preclinical and clinical education in Pharmacology.

ABOUT THE COURSES

The curriculum approved by the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan encompasses a diverse range of learning methodologies, including lectures, small group discussions, tutorials, assignments, and hands-on laboratory exercises. Lectures Lectures are presented by the department's faculty members, thoroughly addressing each topic outlined in the study guide. State-of-the-art audiovisual tools, such as overhead projectors, are regularly employed to enhance the learning experience. Small Group Discussions and Tutorials Upon completing each topic, small group discussions and tutorials are organized, focusing on recently covered material. For this, the entire class is divided into smaller groups. Additionally, students are provided the opportunity to refine their presentation abilities by delivering topic presentations during tutorials, which are scheduled periodically. Laboratory-Based Practical Work The practical component of the syllabus is meticulously crafted to equip students with foundational research methodologies, alongside imparting hands-on expertise crucial for clinical applications. Under the guidance of senior faculty, students receive detailed instruction from their instructors regarding the materials, procedures, and theoretical frameworks pertinent to each experiment. Following this, students independently execute the assigned practical tasks and experiments within the department's laboratory setting
