MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL KMU IMS KOHAT

Khyber Medical University Institute of Medical Sciences (KMU-IMS), Kohat was conceived and realized by Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST), Kohat. On the directions of the then Chancellor KUST/ Governor KPK, Syed Iftekhar Hussain Shah, the KUST syndicate took a bold decision in 2005 to start the first ever Institute of Medical Sciences. The Inauguration of KMU-IMS was performed on Thursday April 6, 2006 by the then Governor KPK Mr. Khalil-ur-Rehman. This institute was shifted to Khyber Medical University as a constituent Institute on 25.11.2011 vide Govt. of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department Notification No. SOH/3-3/KMU dated 25.11.2011.The Institute is recognized by PM&DC, Islamabad on permanent basis. Nursing education, paramedics and post-graduate education are plans for the near future. The Institute is located in the most developed area of Kohat Development Authority (KDA) and is at one hour drive from KP provincial capital, PeshawarThe University main Campus is located at Peshawar. Liaqat Memorial Hospital and Divisional Headquarter hospital of 500 beds capacity have been declared as teaching hospitals for KMU-IMS by the Govt. of KPK. Both the hospitals are well equipped having nursing wards for different types for patients besides operation theaters, radiology and diagnostic laboratories. Both the hospitals have been recently accredited by the College of Physicians & Surgeons (CPSP), Pakistan for FCPS training and TMO’s have been inducted.KMUJ: Khyber Medical University Journal, recognized by PM&DC, HEC and CPSP, is the official journal published from KMU-IMS, Kohat on quarterly basis. Moreover, I feel very proud to share with you that 10 MBBS sessions have passed out from this prestigious institution. Majority of our graduates have successfully completed their post-graduations (FCPS, MCPS, MRCP, MPH,M.Phil, and other Diplomas) and are serving as specialists & faculty members in different hospitals and medical colleges of the country, respectively. Our graduates have brilliant careers in UK & USA after passing the PLAB/USMLE. The College has its own annual magazine “FARAZ”. I must introduce you to the college’s Social Welfare Society, Literary Society, Sports Society and Hiking Club which provide co-curricular as well as extra- curricular activities and opportunities to the students to make them future leaders in their own fields.
